Beautiful Bolton 2018

Come and join us in beautiful Wharfedale, nestled in the Yorkshire Dales.  Blow away the winter cobwebs and take a jaunt around the wonderful estate of Bolton Abbey.  Come rain, shine or snow Bolton Abbey is a fabulous place to spend a weekend anytime of the year.

Bolton Abbey lies in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, near the bustling market town of Skipton.  Bolton Abbey is still today managed by the Devonshire family and has been since 1755.  The landscape on the estate as inspired artists and poets such as Ruskin, Royle, Turner and Wordsworth.

The Abbey itself was founded in 1154 and building work was still being carried out in 1546 when the dissolution of the monasteries resulted in the termination of the priory.

Most work was carried out in the Victorian era and services are still held within the Abbey.

Be aware these trails are not for the fainthearted, lots of folklore surrounds the Bolton Abbey estate.  An apparition of an Augustan monk in a brown robe has been witnessed on many occasions walking through the rectory towards the ruined abbey.  Alternatively check out the Bolton Strid one of the most fearsome stretches of water in the British Isles.  One of the legends around this stretch of water includes the story of the lovers, who tried to leap across the Strid and were drowned, passer-by’s still talk about hearing the girl’s desperate cries. Finally whilst running, make sure you don’t meet the Barguest of Trollers Gill, a gigantic long haired hound from hell, his eyes are like red saucers and he has razor sharp teeth which drip with blood.

But don’t let any of this put you off, the scenery is amazing, the history is endless, so come and join us for the weekend and run 1 or all of our races.  Enjoy the beauty and the challenge of the Yorkshire Dales.
